PUNJAB PRIVATE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS (PROMOTION AND REGULATION) (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2020

No. PAP/Legis-2(55)/2020/2299.–The Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation) (Amendment) Bill 2020, having been passed by the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab on July 15, 2020, and assented to by the Governor of the Punjab on July 28, 2020, is hereby published as an Act of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab.
It is necessary to amend the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation) Ordinance, 1984 (IV of 1984) for purposes hereinafter appearing.
Be it enacted by Provincial Assembly of the Punjab as follows:
1. Short title and commencement.–(1) This Act may be cited as the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation) (Amendment) Act, 2020.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
2. Insertion of Section 12D in Ordinance IV of 1984.–In the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation) Ordinance, 1984 (IV of 1984), after Section 12C, the following new Section 12D shall be inserted:
“12D. Special directives.–The Registering Authority may issue special directives for closure of schools and for ensuring that students are imparted education through alternative means in special circumstances including but not limited to calamities, epidemics, floods, wars, environmental or natural disasters, or when the Registering Authority deems that physical presence of students at schools is hazardous for their health, and, the Registering Authority may also issue directions determining the fee to be charged by the schools for the period during which such special directives remain in field.”.
3. Repeal.–The Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation) (Amendment) Ordinance 2020 (VII of 2020) is hereby repealed.
