PUNJAB COMPULSORY TEACHING OF THE HOLY QURAN (AMENDMENT) ACT 2021

An Act to amend the Punjab Compulsory Teaching of the Holy Quran Act, 2018.

ACT XIV OF 2021

No. PAP/Legis-3(64)/2021/2545.–The Punjab Compulsory Teaching of the Holy Quran (Amendment) Bill 2021, having been passed by the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab on May 18, 2021, and assented to by the Acting Governor of the Punjab on May 28, 2021, is hereby published as an Act of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab.

It is necessary to amend the Punjab Compulsory Teaching of the Holy Quran Act, 2018 (XVII of 2018) for the purposes hereinafter appearing;

Be it enacted by Provincial Assembly of the Punjab as follows:

1.     Short Title and commencement.–(1) This Act may be cited as the Punjab Compulsory Teaching of the Holy Quran (Amendment) Act, 2021.

(2)  It shall come into force at once.

2.     Amendments in Section 2 of Act XVII of 2018.–In the Punjab Compulsory Teaching of the Holy Quran Act, 2018 (XVII of 2018), in Section 2:

(i)       before the existing clause (a), the following new clause (a) shall be inserted and the existing clause (a) and remaining clauses shall be renumbered accordingly:

“(a)     “compulsory teaching” means teaching of the Holy Quran as a separate compulsory subject;”; and

(ii)      for the existing clause (c), renumbered as clause (d), the following shall be substituted:

“(d)     “Naazrah Quran” means reading and recitation with correct pronunciation by sighting of Arabic text;”.
