PROVINCIAL MOTOR VEHICLES (AMENDMENT)

An ordinance further to amend the Provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965.
Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965 (XIX of 1965) for the purposes hereinafter appearing;
And whereas the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab is dissolved and the Governor is satisfied that circumstances exist which render it necessary to take immediate action;
And whereas under Article 4 of the Provisional Constitution (Amendment) Order No. 9 of 1999, as amended by the Chief Executive Order no. 11 of 2000, the Governor of a Province may issue and promulgate an Ordinance;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the aforesaid powers and all other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Governor of the Punjab is pleased to make and promulgate the following Ordinance.
1. Short title, extent and commencement.- (1) This Ordinance may be called the Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Ordinance, 2002.
(2) It shall come into force at once.
2. Addition of section 112-A in Ordinance XIX of 1965.- After section 112 of the said Ordinance the following new section 112-A shall be added:-
“112-A. Penalty for fabricating or counterfeiting emergency light or any other distinctive sign.- Whoever displays an emergency light or fabricates or counterfeits any other distinctive sign on a vehicles portraying the same to belong to Government or any emergency service or working as an emergency vehicle in violation of rules prescribed by Government shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both.”
3. Amendment in Twelfth Schedule of Ordinance XIX of 1965.- In the Twelfth Schedule of the said Ordinance, after the entry at serial No. 20 the figure “21”, the words “Displaying emergency light or fabricating or counterfeiting any other distinctive sign” and the letters and figures “Rs. 200 Rs.300″ shall be inserted under the headings “CODE NO.”, “VIOLATION” and “FINES-M/Cycle All other vehicles” respectively.
