Q/- what are the types of Defamation? Explain.

TYPES OF DEFAMATION:

There are two (2) types of defamation

·         Libel

·         Slander

LIBEL:

Libel is a type of defamation that is concerned with statements that are made in some permanent form. It is usually printed or written in words. It can also cover films, pictures & statues etc. in other words, it is a publication of false, derogatory & defamatory statements in permanent form/style having tendency to injure/harm, the reputation of another person without lawful justification or excuse. It is an actionable per se.

 SLANDER:

Slander is a type of defamation that is concerned with the defamatory statements made in a transitory form such as spoken words or gestures. It is false, derogatory and defamatory oral or verbal statement/remark having a tendency to injure/harm the reputation of another person without any lawful justification or excuse. It is not an actionable per se unless there is a special damage.
